I'm currently in the market for a short and fairly lightweight hunting rifle. Something in the 18-20" range for barrel length and sub 7.5 pounds unloaded without a scope. I've been lookin at the bergara b-14 ridge special purpose in 6.5 cm, it's got an 18 inch barrel and weights are 7 pounds. I've been searching around and it doesn't seem like there's many other options out there without building it. I'm curious to see what you guys have to say. I'm open to different calibers, however I'd prefer to stay away from 308 at the moment, although I could be convinced otherwise. Anyway, it's going to be a suppressor host (hense the shorter barrel) and I'm trying to keep the overall length down so it's easier to get in and out of the truck. Mostly hunting at or under 500 yards with the occasional 800 yard target shooting.

Keep in mind that the fine scout rifle ain’t no lightweight!
all depends on your mode of hunting. A relative heavy rifle, is fine if you use it from an ambush position like a blind. If you are still young enough and frisky and like to follow elk trails in the bush or climb mountain, you better look for a lightweight rifle to pack while climbing or keep in the ready position to jump shoot moose or elk in the forest. Which light rifle all depends on The depth of your wallet and your fitness level, a highly individual choice. Tikkas have proven to be fine and consistent hunting rifle performers. you can’t go wrong on those. Ofcourse there are other fine cheaper guns. I am happy with Tikka, Bergara and Cooper.
