Hello. I just recently started rifle reloading. I own the Short Action Custom “Modular Sizing Dies” and for comparison the German Triebel dies. Both are incredible quality. If you are looking for a 308WIN set (FL & Seating), Creedmoorsports has an incredible deal on the regular ($120 isch) and benchrest ($160 isch) set instead of almost $390 if bought separate. Also check out the Redding Competition dies. Be good
I will say that all dies are definitely not the same. But I’ve used and own probably about 4-6 different makers and types of dies. Many for the same type of cartridge. If you’re just getting started, there is nothing wrong with lee, Rcbs, etc. I still use my Lee dies for my volume 9 stuff and have used the same on and off based on ammo prices for more than 10 years. If/when you get into precision stuff, or hunting ammo, which require a higher degree of variable-control for the absolute MOST out of your time and components, some of the fancier stuff do certain jobs better. They can also make certain variables easier to control, increase efficiency in the loading process, etc. I found the cost justifiable when I could determine that my time (which is precious and getting ever less available) would be saved by the fancier wiz bang products. TLDR: if you’re just getting started, nothing wrong with some lee dies (or rcbs, these two brands I have the most of) to load a bunch on, learn a whole lot, get addicted to the hobby. For most pistol cartridges (ie training ammo, high volume, etc) you gain less from expensive dies than you do with more precision rifle stuff.
Thank you for your insight. I will be getting into more precision loads but want to walk before I run. Start reloading 9mm 5.56 and 300 blk and move to 7mm Remington mag and others.
I have rcbs and lee precision and to be honest I’m new at it too if you shoot more than twice a week than go big but if not that often just buy the cheap stuff it’s all the same.
